You Look Awfully Familiar of the Day: Tori LaConsay says H&M lifted a piece she did as a “love letter” to the East Atlanta Village that’s been on display on the main thoroughfare since December 2008.
H&M, which has a strikingly similar-looking “you look nice today” and heart glyph for sale on doormats and guest towels, initially claimed it was definitely not influenced by LaConsay’s work, but is now said to be “looking into the situation” (likely spurred into action by the thousands of negative comments left on their Facebook page by people who feel as LaConsay does).
What say you? Plagiarism or pure coincidence?
[regretsy.]

who cares.

Time-Lapse Thing of the Day: Red Peak Branding conducted a “unique urban experiment,” wherein they locked up a “fully loaded bike” complete with all the bells and whistles to a bike post on a busy SoHo street. They then snapped a photo of the bike every day for a year.

Spoiler Alert: A good chunk of that time was spent snapping photos of other people’s bikes.

[redpeak.]

Yo, if you leave a bike locked up outside for more than a month, you don’t deserve that bike anymore.

Animated GIF of the Day: An important reminder from blackout participant The Oatmeal of all the wonderful things at stake in sitting idly by while SOPA/PIPA are allowed to pass.

This is the most charming SOPA related thing I’ve seen today.

(Not So) Shocking News of the Day: Paula Deen is getting ready to drop a bombshell on the butter-loving world: She has Type 2 diabetes.
Sources who spoke with The Daily say Deen has had the disease for some time, despite continuing to push high-fat, high-calorie foods through her cooking programs and products.
According to the insiders, Deen has negotiated a multimillion-dollar spokesperson deal with Novartis, the pharmaceutical company that manufactures her diabetes medication.
“Paula Deen is going to have to reposition herself now that she has diabetes,” one source told Flash. “She’s going to have to start cooking healthier recipes. She can’t keep pushing mac and cheese and deep-fried Twinkies when she is hawking a diabetes drug.”

Too Sexy For My School of the Day: Controversy at Durango High School in Colorado, where student editors of the yearbook rejected a photo of senior Sydney Spies for being too sexy.
Students at Durango are allowed to pick their own photos and submit them for inclusion in the yearbook. Spies and her mother chose one that student editors deemed too provocative for the school’s annual book of record.
“We are an award-winning yearbook,” said editor Brian Jaramillio. “We don’t want to diminish the quality with something that can be seen as unprofessional.”
The Durango Herald originally reported that it was the administration’s call, but student editors have since come forward to take responsibility. “If she (Spies) chooses to, the picture will run as her senior ad, not her senior portrait,” said Tevan Trujillo, another editor.
Despite the students’ claim, Spies herself still feels the administration had a hand in the final decision. “The editors all turned their backs on me and changed their minds,” she says. “I really do feel like they were intimidated by the principal.”
Spies added that she feels her freedom of expression is being infringed upon. She and her mother were scheduled to meet with DHS principal Diane Lashinsky yesterday.

These are exactly the kinds of civil liberties fights we need to be focusing on!
Wait, nevermind. The opposite.
